Biography
Professor Dr Carlos Van Mieghem, MD, PhD, FESC is former staff member of the department of Interventional Cardiology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, former staff member and director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the department of Cardiology OLV Hospital Aalst, Belgium and currently staff member at the Cardiology department AZ Groeninge Kortrijk, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, president of the Belgian Lifestyle Medicine Organization, member of the scientific committee of the European Lifestyle Medicine Council (www.europeanlmc.org) and the World Lifestyle medicine organization (www.wlmo.org), Faculty lecturer at the University of Thessaly, Greece, for the Master in Lifestyle Medicine program, and consultant Lifestyle Medicine Specialist at Medisch Centrum Leie, Belgium.

He studied medicine magna cum laude at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and obtained board certification in internal medicine, cardiology and intensive care medicine. He then trained in cardiovascular research, interventional cardiology and cardiac CT imaging at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. 

He founded SanaMedical (www.sanamedical.be) in 2023, a concierge medicine practice which accommodates a limited amount of clients. This  practice focusses on prevention, Longevity, Lifestyle Medicine and general  cardiology. This practice is connected with an international network of specialists to refer clients and patients to in case of particular disease issues. 
His academic career started in 2009 with the public defense of his PhD thesis “CT coronary angiography: validation and clinical implementation”. 

Research interests
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem has mentored numerous physicians and scientists from all over the world. His research focuses on following topics: 
* Cardiac imaging
* Hypertension
* Atherosclerosis
* Lifestyle medicine 

Publications
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem has published extensively, authoring or co-authoring over 110 original research articles and multiple reviews, book chapters and monographs.
He is a reviewer for many international cardiology and Lifestyle Medicine journals, including British Medical Journal (BMJ) Lifestyle Medicine, European Heart Journal and Journal of the American College of Cardiology. 

General interests
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem is a dedicated admirer of international sports. He participated himself in competitive swimming until the age of 21. He restarted competitive swimming in the Masters series in 2012 and became Belgian champion in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.  He obtained the 5th place on the 50m backstroke at the European Masters Swimming competition in Rome 2022.
